Frequently asked questions

Is Clever Candidate free?

Yes. The free plan is for your own job search and doesn't limit your jobs: save as many as you like, track their status, build your CV and download it as a PDF, match your skills against every posting and apply by e-mail. Paid plans add seats for coaches and career services who support job seekers.

Which CV formats can I download?

Your CV comes out as a PDF the way each country expects it: a one-page US résumé or a Canadian one on Letter paper, without photo or birth date; a CV on A4 for the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand; a German, Austrian or Swiss Lebenslauf with photo and personal details; and a general A4 CV for everywhere else. You fill in your CV once, in English or German, and each job gets the format of the country it's in.

How does skills matching work?

You keep your skills in one place, each with a level. For every job you save, Clever Candidate looks for them in the posting and shows how many of your skills it asks for, and which skills it mentions that you haven't listed yet. You see at a glance which jobs fit and what to add.

Which job sites can I save jobs from?

Most career pages and job boards. Paste the link to a posting, and title, company, location, salary, deadline and description are filled in where the posting lists them. A few large job boards block automated reading; for those you paste the job text instead or add the job by hand.

How do I keep track of my job applications?

Every job has a status: to apply, applied, interview, offer, accepted, rejected or withdrawn. Your dashboard shows where all your job applications stand, each job keeps its history and your notes, and a week after you apply a reminder to follow up appears.

Who can see my data?

Your jobs, CV, letters and files stay private. There are no tracking or advertising cookies, and your data is never sold or used for ads. If a coach or career service invites you to their workspace, they see your name and how many jobs you saved and applied to, but not the jobs themselves, your CV, letters or files. If you leave, your data goes with you.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Clever Candidate runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, in English or German. There's nothing to install.

Can I apply by e-mail?

Yes. Start from a cover letter template that fills in the company, the position and your matching skills, attach your CV as a PDF and send it from your own mailbox, or through Clever Candidate with replies going straight to you.
